Thirumangai Azhvar and Saiva Kuravar Sambandar had a colloquim and the azhwar won the caption. The God in the temple is praised as ''Man alantha Tadalan'' meaning the one who measured the land.〔''Journal of Indian history, Volumes 22-24''.Dept. of Modern Indian History, 1943.〕 The name Tadalan is in honour of Tiruvikrama form and the ''moolavar''(prime deity) fixed in the central shrine is in this form.
